Best Practice of METRO Cash & Carry Pakistan under Its Global Care & Share Program

Karachi, August 11, 2009: METRO Cash & Carry has fulfilled its Corporate Social Responsibility by working in close coordination with the Education Department Government of Sindh on a school facility, the Government Primary School. This is for the second time, under its global Care and Share program that METRO Cash & Carry supported a CSR activity. Previously it took active part in food donations for the earthquake victims.

“Strengthening the quality of education has become a global agenda at all educational levels and more so at the primary level. The quality of basic education is important not only for preparing individuals for the subsequent educational levels but to equip them with the requisite basic life skills.” said Giovanni Soranzo, Managing Director, METRO Cash & Carry Pakistan. “Our position as international leading player in self-service wholesales means not only business success, but also a responsibility towards the society. One of our roles is to be a good corporate citizen. For several years, METRO Cash & Carry wholesale centers in various countries have fulfilled this role by actively supporting programs beneficial to the society.”

This step is part of a comprehensive initiative on the part of METRO Cash & Carry to support CSR projects – such as the donation for earthquake victims or taking active measures for the education sector in a certain country– on a national and international scale. “The concept is – to bring support to those who need it most – is so strikingly simple that it’s ingenious,” the Managing Director said.

Mr. Rizwan Memon, Secretary Education & Literacy, appreciated the initiatives taken by METRO Cash & Carry to contribute its share to the city’s citizens. “Picking up the concept of quality education and by working close with the Government of Sindh, to establish an Educational Facility, The Government Primary School under its global, Care & Share program, METRO has once again proved its commitment towards our society. ” he said.

“METRO Cash & Carry has proved that it lives up to its commitment with Pakistan by establishing itself as a pioneer in supporting local economy and society of the host country. If we reckon METRO’s commitment in a glance we see donations METRO has made for the earthquake victims generously in terms of finances and food in 2005 and 2008 for the effectives. And now the Government Primary School - a project of quality education, which shows METRO’s belief and share in strengthening Pakistan at all possible levels.”
